Back to School Banner

Bad news for kids. Good news for parents. School is going back soon.

The state of Florida wants to help with a tax free holiday on many back to school supplies.

In general, if your student is going to wear it, put it in their backpacks for classroom use, or use it to do their homework — chances are, it will be available tax-free this week through August 7th.

Generator Recall

ECHO on Thursday recalled about 3,700 of its EGi-2300 Watt generators, saying the products can overheat, causing fire and burn hazards.

The affected generators were sold at independent ECHO outdoor power equipment dealers nationwide and online at www.HomeDepot.com from February 2020 through June 2021 for about $850 each.

According to the recall notice, the company has received four reports of generators either overheating or catching fire, but no injuries have been reported.

The affected products are orange and black with “ECHO” and “EGi-2300” printed on the side. They have the model number EGi-2300 and a serial number between EU19483D010001 and EU21021N010180. Both numbers are printed on the data label on the bottom left-hand area of the side panel, per the recall notice.

Consumers who have purchased the ECHO generator are advised to immediately stop using it and contact ECHO for instructions on how to obtain a free repair. The company can be reached by calling 800-432-3246 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. CT Monday through Friday or online at www.Echo-USA.com.

City partners for paid summer internships

The city of St. Cloud is partnering with CareerSource Central Florida to sponsor up to 20 local high school students for paid internships at local businesses. As part of the five-week program, Addition Financial will provide participating students a financial literacy course to teach them basic financial management skills. The course will include setting up a bank account and learning to save, and Addition will provide $50 per student to get them started.

The city has agreed to spend up to $20,000 from its OUC Business Retention Fund to sponsor up to 20 local high school students for the program.

“The city recognizes the need for a qualified workforce as a feeder in high-wage, high-quality jobs,” said Economic Development Manager Antranette Forbes. “Sponsoring these scholarships is one way the City can help develop the workforce of the future.”
